Resources from October 2015 MEMUG
Many thanks again to Justin Chalfant, Microsoft premier field engineer, for the great presentation in October. His resources from the presentation are below, along with a link to download the video presentation.
- Whitepaper that describes why using MDT is typically the better option for building images compared to ConfigMgr: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn818437.aspx
- The CustomSettings.ini and Bootstrap.ini (included in the download for the presentation) can be used as a template for helping to customize your deployment share for capturing images.
- The WSUS PowerShell script for declining superseded updates can be downloaded from here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2015/04/15/support-tip-configmgr-2012-update-scan-fails-and-causes-incorrect-compliance-status.aspx
Note: You can setup a scheduled task that runs the script as the SYSTEM account on your WSUS server use this for the program: powershell.exe and the argument (You will need to change server name, path and maybe the port): -NoLogo -NoProfile -NonInteractive -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -command C:\WSUSCleanupScript\Decline-SupersededUpdates.ps1 -UpdateServer CM12PR1.CONTOSO.LOCAL -Port 8530 - If you are building a Windows 7 or 8.1 machine, I would recommend using the following script to reduce the WIM size by about 1 GB: http://deploymentbunny.com/2014/06/05/nice-to-know-get-rid-of-all-junk-before-sysprep-and-capture-when-creating-a-reference-image-in-mdt/. There is not a big improvement in WIM savings for Windows 10 with this script.
