I just got a MAC OS Tiger and have installed Microsoft Word in it. I would like to be able to type in Farsi but I cannot seem to be able to do it. I have installed Farsi Font from this site into my Font folder which already is showing it , but still I am not being able to change to font from English into Farsi and see the Farsi text in my Word document. ( I am already using word Farsi in my PC but since I am a new MAC user I am not sure how to make it work here.I will appreciate your help.

I respond in English and if you wish to discuss it in Farsi, you can continue your posting in IRMUG. There you can type right to left. Here, the site is optimized for left to right like English.
Your problem with 'yeh' is that it is not a real Persian yeh that you are using. May I ask which keyboard layout you are using?
What you have on your keyboard (or you use by mistake) is 'ARABIC LETTER ALEF MAKSURA' which has only a final form and isolated form in Geeza Pro. So it doesn't join to the next letter. It should indeed have initial and medial forms as well but even if Geeza Pro did have them, they'd be dotless! So you shouldn't use it for Farsi anyway.
I suggest that you choose Persian keyboard or if you already use it, look its layout in 'keyboard viewer' and find the right place of Persian yeh (which is on 'D' key). In older Persian keyboards on Mac, the code for Alef Maksura was mistakenly used for yeh but in OS X it has been corrected since 10.2 I guess.

I have the same problems as Nasrin. i followed your advice and was unable to use Mellel software because it was not typing correctley. can you please tell me how to do the settings so it works properly so Ii can type in Farsi without the letters typing backwards.
Also Textra Illustrator would be the perfect program or plug in for me because I would like to actually use farsi fonts in illustrator but when I was in their website and wanted to go to contacts it wouldn't link. Would you happen to know if this version is compatible with Illustrator CS2 before I purchase.
Please help me as much as you can.

I don't know about illustrator but with Mellel, I don't understand why and how it goes backward. Did you select the correct directionality on top of the window?
Yes I did, that's why I don't understand why it won't work. Do I have to change any setting on my hard drive in system preference such as languages. Also could you tell me which version of Mellel you use just to make sure it's right.

Mine is 2.2 which I think is the latest. But for your problem it's irrelevant. Mellel never had that kind of problem on any version. Can you explain what you mean by 'backward'?
Anyhow either way it is important to set your Mac up for the language and keyboard. So go to System Preferenes>International and on the first tab add Farsi in your case. On the third tab you can select the keyboard layout for Persian or Persian ISIRI.
But I'd be surprised if this had any effect on your Mellel problem.
