Hi,

SIL International has recently released two new fonts, Scheherazade and Lateef, both in two versions of AAT (for Macintosh) and OT (for the rest). They are quite good. Check them out at:

They are writing in thier Homepage that thir Fonts do not support

Arabic Presentation Forms-A
Arabic Presentation Forms-B

But what dose it mean?
These are two range of Unicode index. The Arabic script main alphabet is grouped in 'Arabic' range which of course is supported because those are codes that you use on your keyboard (in any Arabic script languages)
Presentation Forms which include the initial, medial and final forms of alphabet and also a wide range of Arabic ligatures are grouped in two segment of Unicode- A and B.
It doesn't mean that they don't have those forms in the font. Of-course they do. But those forms don't carry Unicode ID (code, index whatever it's called)
hi i've bought macpro recently and i have problem using FARSI fonts. i used to work with MARYAM software in pc now what should i do? i'll be thankful if somone help me!
Hello There,
I was surfing net to know about fonts. When I came across this site.....Going through this site I got to knew about these new fonts by SIL....It was very interesting to know about such developments.....Shall surely share my views about these fonts with my friends.
Thanks.
Yes cookewhitley they are very good. The most advantage of these fonts is that they cover almost all languages of Arabic script, and with the AAT version, they work perfectly on the Mac.
Scheherazade and Lateef extended Arabic script fonts designed by SIL International, modern systems based on Unicode or OpenType or AAT (Apple Advanced Typography) complex script is doing. They claim almost all the Unicode 4.1 Arabic character set (with the exception of Arabic presentation forms blocks, which are not recommended for normal use). Each character is currently the only regular weight.
