I am wondering whether other Safari users have the same problem as I do, namely:
When I visit certain sites in Farsi with Safari, the letters all come out in capital, thus separated. This problem doesn't exist with Camino and Firefox.
Is this happening because I have changed my default fonts in Safari, or is this a general problem? I'll also mention that I have changed my default fonts in Camino as well, but the problem isn't there.
Your help would be appreciated.

Yes, it's a font problem. Safari, like TextEdit, uses only Arabic fonts with AAT technology. Other browsers use mostly fonts with OpenType thechnology which is common on PCs.
I beleive if you choose one of X fonts posted in download section of this site, they should work properly. But most other fonts (like Borna fonts) are OpenType and don't work on Safari.
Let me know if you were successful with X fonts.

Thank you for your input.
I've changed Safari's fonts to its defaults (Times 16 and Courier 13), but the problem still persists. I don't believe this is the issue.
Again, the problem I have is that on certain pages in Farsi, the fonts (mostly the larger ones) are displayed in capitals only.
As an example, fonts at
http://www.isna.ir are only displayed in capital letters, which makes reading the page almost impossible.
However, pages like
http://www.editormyself.com are displayed half in capitals and half normally (bigger fonts in capitals and smaller fonts the way they should).
Anyone have a clue?

I don't have such problem with these pages. Again, it seems to me that it is a font problem. But I had problem with Safari in changing its default font before. Safari's options are limited and it doesn't allow font selection for specific scripts separately (Roman, Arabic...) and if I remember correcly, it keeps in its memory the prvious Arabic font selected and it doesn't change it.
I suggest you select Geeza Pro as your default font (this is the system default Arabic font) and keep it that way for a while. Then, if you change it again to Times and Courier, hopefully it will keep Geeza Pro in memory for use in Arabic sections of web pages.

Thanks again for your message.
So far, I've emptied the cache and changed my default standard font to Geeza Pro, but the problem persists. Are you saying the problem will go away after a while that I have used Geeza Pro as my main font?

No I'm not saying that. Frankly I have no idea what is wrong with your program. I know that Safari's preference setting can be corrupted and jammed very easily. So why not trying this: Go to User>Library>preferences and delete the file com.apple.Safari.plist (Safari should be closed) then log off and back on again for good measure and re-open Safari. This should put Safari back to its original default setting (which uses Geeza Pro for Arabic scripts). Don't change the font setting. Leave it as is. Geeza will take over when needed.
If you get your web pages correctly, report your whole story to Apple!
Good luck!

I hope that won't delete all my bookmarks, will it?
Will the option "Reset Safari" in the Safari drop-down menu do the same thing?
Well, you wouldn't know it until you do it would you?!
But seriously, I highly doubt it. If you go to user>Library, there is a folder called 'Safari' in there. If you open this folder, you'll see that's where the information about bookmarks etc. are kept. So I don't think that would delete your bookmarks but if you really want to be careful why you don't remove com.apple.Safari.plist to your desktop instead of deleting? If something went wrong, you can put it back where it was.
Don't reset Safari. This one will definitively remove your bookmarks.

Okay, I put the preference list on the desktop, opened Safari, and guess what? The problem is still there.
Again, ISNA is all in capitals and so is Editor:Myself's top part.
I wonder what this is...
Sorry, that's all I could come up with. I don't know what's wrong. Send a bug report to Apple. You can also see few tricks on this site (Pesian section) about cleaning PRAM etc. Those also might help.
Remove all your non Apple Arabic fonts from all your fonts folders (save them on a CD) there also might be a particular font that is driving Safari crazy. That's all I can think of.

Thanks a lot for the help anyway. One always learns new things while experimenting with suggested solutions. Btw, I don't have extra non-Apple Arabic fonts on my system.
If you ever think of something else, please be sure to let me know, I'll be watching this thread.
Anyone else with any solutions before I write to Apple?
today i tried it also and i have the same problem!
:(
Dear Ali,
Thanks for your feedback. Let me ask you this: What other browsers do you have installed on your Mac? If you have any, what fonts are they each using for Arabic script?
